The Way – Jamaica

/The Way – Jamaica

Hi, this is Jean.  I will be the blogger for the next 2 weeks, as we have teams in Jamaica to help facilitate the residential Christian weekends called The Way.  The first week, is the women’s The Way #15 and next week will be the men’s The Way #16.

We have arrived!  Janet and Bill arrived on Monday, so that Bill would be here to help pick us up at the airport in Montego Bay.  Bill and Janet have enjoyed a couple of relaxed days with Mike, the CSI Ministries field director.  They have known him for 10 years.  The rest of us arrived on Wednesday, August 17, in 2 groups.   Some of us flew through Chicago and the rest through Orlando. There are 17 of us here for the week.  We all piled into 2 mini buses (vans) and the work truck for the ride to Highgate, Jamaica in St. Mary’s parish.

The Way - Jerk Chicken
About an hour into our 3 hour drive to Highgate, we stopped at the Ultimate Jerk Centre for supper.  We each chose between fried or jerked chicken.  Jerk, is the flavoring used on the chicken before it is barbecued.  It can be hot and spicy depending on the amount of jerk seasoning used.  We also picked ginger beer (non-alcoholic), coconut milk, water, various pops or juices for a drink.
The Way - Utilmate Jerk
It is fun to be together with old friends.  Arthur helps on the house building projects, drives the luggage back and forth to the airport and is a local pastor in Highgate.  It’s always good to see our Jamaican friends.  They are a blessing!
The Way - Team dinner arrival

Here is the rest of the team, minus me.  We made our way back to the mission house after eating a delicious supper.  Mike, the field director, shared all the particulars about staying at the mission house as we sat on the veranda and enjoyed the cool breezes.  We headed to bed about 10 pm and fell asleep listening to the singing tree frogs.
