Read 2 Timothy 3:14-17

2 Timothy 3:17 – “Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us” (MSG)

Some people do not realize how powerful words are.  God’s “words” are the way that creation began its existence.  In the first chapter of Genesis you will find the phrase, “God said” ten times.  This is the history of creation.  Verse 27 says, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them”. (NKJV)  So if we are made in His likeness, or image, our words are powerful as well.  Words do one of two things; give life by edifying, encouraging and giving hope, or they destroy.  We are to do all things to the glory of God, including what we speak.  (See 1 Corinthians 10: 23 & 24)

My Grandmother told me, “If you can’t say something nice, you shouldn’t say anything at all.”  My Grandmother was a godly woman, and she was sharing wisdom from God’s word with me when I was a young girl.

I also heard later in my adult life that once we have spoken, those words cannot be taken back.  If we are hurt and wounded by words, we can heal, but there will always be a scar.

God’s Word is life.  Jesus says in John 6:63b, “…the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life”. (NASB)  God’s Word is truth; it transforms us and helps us grow spiritually.  It is very important that we choose our words wisely.  How will you use your words today?
