Oak Hill 7/04/2019: From the Field

What a fabulous, emotional day today has been!  After a French toast breakfast, we had devotions focusing on following our dreams.  We talked about those people in our lives who function as our support systems and discussed how God sometimes has different ideas for us than we do.  All week as we have been on site, the groups have been enjoying playing with children, so they were excited to finish devotions and head out to a school this morning.  This group and the group that was here a couple of weeks ago from Oak Hill built basketball goals to donate.  We traveled to a primary school to set one up, and the children who were there were able to come out and play around with our guys during recess time.  The guys loved it!  Many of the children were hanging on our taller players, playing tag with our guys, trying to dribble and shoot, and just enjoying having so many playmates!  It was incredible to see all of the smiles and listen to the laughter!  We gave a second goal to a different school, but those children were not there.  The teachers were, however, and they expressed their appreciation for the gift.  I am sure that come September, these goals will get a lot of use!
After lunch at the guesthouse (a dish sort of like a meat pie), we went to the dedications at each of the houses.  Several members of the group went shopping for some food items, chairs, things for the children, and other needs they saw.   CSI also gives a bed, sheets, and pillows with each house.  At each dedication, the building groups were responsible for planning scripture, prayer, a testimony, presentation of a Bible, an altar call, and presentation of the keys.  The families were given a chance to speak as well.  My heart is simply overflowing today.  These young men have shown themselves to be such examples this week, and today we had several of our quieter players share during the dedications.  Hearing these guys share their hearts and lift their voices in prayer is an amazing experience.  Many tears were shed as we listened to each other and witnessed the joy these families felt with the gift of these houses and other items.  We closed each ceremony with a blessing of the house; gathering around the houses and placing our hands on those beautifully colored walls was powerful.  I know the guys will all have much to share about today when they return home.  It is difficult to put into words how special today has been.  God has certainly been working in hearts all week, and I believe that there has been much growth in faith and as young men as they have served this week.  You would be so proud of them!  What a blessing they have been to my heart!
Last night we had entertainment as several singers came in and shared Jamaican music.  The guys then started a huge cornhole tournament that may not be complete until tomorrow.  Cornhole has been a big hit this week, and many skills have been sharpened!  Those that aren’t playing cornhole are typically playing euchre.  Tonight we have a debriefing time, and I am anticipating many more tears will be shed as this will be a chance to share and reflect on the week.  Thank you for your continued prayers.  God is good!
