Read Romans 6: 20-23
I have been doing short-term Mission Trips to Jamaica since 2004. It is a beautiful country and most of the people are welcoming, very polite and loving. When traveling on the main coastal highway, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and the roads are good. However, when you turn off the coastal highway and head up into the mountains where our Mission Guesthouse is, the roads are full of pot holes so we swerve to try to avoid them.
Sin in our lives is like those pot holes, it needs to be avoided. One of the ways we can do that is to read the Bible every day. I heard someone say once, “Sin will keep you from the Bible and the Bible will keep you from sin.” Psalm 119:11 says, “Your Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (NKJV)
Satan wants us to fall into these “pot holes” of life. Not all of them can be avoided, but, we don’t have to stay there! In Romans 6:20-23 it tells us that we have been set free from sin because of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. We do not have to be stuck in pot holes or sin because Jesus has given us a way out. That is what Paul is telling us in verse 23, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NKJV)
Will you allow Jesus to lift you from the “pot holes” in your life?
Lord, please help me avoid the “pot holes” of life but when I can’t, please forgive me of my sins. Amen
