On Friday, March 2, a severe weather outbreak produced tornadoes in communities across five states. Salyersvile, KY, CSI Ministries’ main base for United States ministry for the past two years, is one of the affected communities. A category EF-3 tornado severely damaged or destroyed businesses, churches, homes and schools.
In the coming days, US missionary Mark Ditmer, will be in Salyersville assessing the damage. With help from community leaders, he will determine where our efforts will provide the best assistance.
CSI Ministries is not yet a first-responder for disaster relief, and as we learned through hurricane Katrina, our best efforts remain in our ability to provide long-term assistance to the area. We understand the desire that many individuals have to arrive immediately following a disaster and provide assistance. Small groups of three or four often arrive to help without having a plan in place: where to stay, how to eat, what to do. Time and time again this approach has proven to be more of a hindrance than a help to the initial relief efforts. CSI Ministries’ focus will be on long-term recovery.
How To Help:
1. Pray – Lives have been changed forever as a result of these storms. Pray for those who lost homes and businesses. Pray for the churches and other ministries as they share the love of Christ with the community.
2. Donate – CSI Ministries has set-up a Salyersvile Disaster Relief giving option. Donations are accepted online through the link provided on the CSI Web site, or by check to the home office noted to “Salyersville Disaster Relief.”
3. Stay tuned – CSI Ministries will be providing updates on our Web site about the relief efforts, ministry needs and how you can help in the short- and long-term. If you would like to be added to our priority communication list please e-mail your name, phone number and e-mail address to firstname.lastname@example.org.
